ViSalus – 50,000 Members in 300 Cities Broke the Flash Mob World Record
by Ted Nuyten on April 22, 2012
ViSalus, recently received its one-millionth member of their 90-day fitness challenge. To celebrate this, the company attempted to break the world record for largest flash mob. A flash mob (or flashmob) is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse.
The event was organized by ViSalus to promote their Body By Vi fitness program and the Vi-Shape Nutritional Shake. “We’re always been an edgy, cutting edge, mainstream company,” co-founder Nick Sarnicola, says. “We always try to do things that are fun and exciting.”
The company says more than 50,000 people in 300 cities across North America broke out in song and dance at the exact same time – setting the first record of its kind.
“It also fits our brand in terms of getting active, exercise, dance, work out, anything,” Sarnicola says.
Alfonso Ribeiro (Photo), known for playing “Carlton” on the popular sit-com “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air,” lead the mob in Los Angeles. He helped choreograph the dance performed at the event..
ViSalus Members and friends all around the US and Canada all began the same flash mob dance at 3:00 P.M. EDT, to attempt to break the record.
Since the event took place in hundreds of locations throughout the country, each group had to learn the dance by tape, which was the hardest part according to flash mob members.
