From Nurse to Network Marketing Leader: Mary Kirori’s Journey Crosses Paths with Skypex
For many people, the global lockdowns of 2020 were a setback. For Mary, they were the turning point that transformed her career, her mindset, and her future.
Born and raised in Kenya, Mary comes from a family where education and financial independence were highly valued. Her father, an accountant and real estate investor, taught her early on the importance of saving, investing, and creating multiple sources of income. Those lessons would later become the foundation of her entrepreneurial journey.
At 19, Mary left Kenya to study and work abroad as a nurse. The experience gave her resilience but also showed her that traditional employment was not the life she wanted. After returning to entrepreneurship, she successfully ran her own barbershop – until COVID-19 forced her to close.
“I couldn’t work from home with a service business. I felt stuck,”
she recalls. But that challenge opened the door to something new: network marketing.
Introduced to the business by her sister Jane, a longtime industry leader, Mary was hesitant.
“I’m an introvert, I don’t like talking to people,”
she admits. Yet with encouragement and the urgency of needing a new income source she gave it a try.
What followed was a period of growth and discovery. She embraced mentorship, studied leaders like Jim Rohn and Les Brown, and learned how to turn rejection into resilience.
“Now when I hear a no, I say, that’s just the next opportunity.”
Today, Mary runs her network marketing business entirely from home. She motivates her team through WhatsApp groups, Zoom calls, and in-person meetings. For her, leadership is about relationships:
“My greatest milestone is seeing others succeed.”
One story she treasures is that of a former employee who joined her during the pandemic. Within six months, that woman had bought land and begun building a home.
“That is the fruit of hard work, helping others change their lives,”
Mary says proudly.
Unlike traditional business, network marketing gives Mary the flexibility to balance family and work. She no longer spends long hours tied to a shop. Instead, she can build her business around her life.
“The best part of this industry is time freedom. I can run meetings from home, be with my kids, and still grow my income,”
she explains.
Mary’s latest chapter includes working with Skypex, a platform that focuses on education for entrepreneurs.
“Many people start businesses without skills and lose money. Skypex gives us the knowledge to build properly. Knowledge is power,”
she says.
Advice for Aspiring Home Entrepreneurs
Mary’s message to those considering a network marketing business is simple but powerful:
- Don’t let your current situation define you, let it refine you.
- Get out of your comfort zone and take action.
- Rejection is not the end; it’s part of the journey.
- Keep reading, learning and personal growth are essential.
Her favourite quote from Jim Rohn sums it up:
“If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.”
Mary envisions a future of balance, harmony, and empowerment for herself, her team, and the people she mentors. Her legacy goal is clear: to empower as many people as possible to achieve financial independence and live life on their own terms.
From a hospital nurse in Germany to a thriving businesswoman at home in Kenya, Mary’s journey shows what’s possible when resilience meets opportunity.
