Airocide – A NASA Technology Lands In Your Home

Airocide Business

Last April during a well publicized donation ceremony, the Space Shuttle Discovery came in for its final landing, resting on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. At that same event and also on display was another NASA technology beginning quite a different journey.

Airocide, an air purification technology developed by NASA for use on the international space station and space shuttle, was starting its journey across the country along with the other shuttles as they find their new homes at the Intrepid Museum in New York City, the California Science Center in Los Angeles, and the Kennedy Space Center, just east of Orlando.

Initially developed by NASA for use on the international space station to eliminate the ethylene gas produced by the plants on board, as well as other Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s), Airocide is currently being used commercially to help companies like Chiquita, Del Monte and Whole Foods extend the shelf life of fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Airocide is also hard at work in over 70 Napa Valley wineries including Opus One, Shafer and Sawyer, removing bacteria and mold from wine caves and helping to ensure a quality product. Airocide has also been a real shot in the arm for the health and wellness segment and is currently being used in doctor’s offices, operating rooms and nursing home facilities to clear the air of viruses, bacteria and any organic airborne pathogens that may adversely effect patient health.

The company, who is exploring strategic relationships with international direct channel distribution partners, has been interested in making a new version of Airocide for the residential market, enabling consumers to bring the same NASA developed, air-clearing capabilities to their homes.

The company would leverage the 12 years of scientific testing it has received from major universities and government agencies, along with its FDA Class II Medical Device listing to show consumers the Airocide technology is proven effective.

The Airocide air purifier is different from other air purifiers because it’s not a filter.  It clears the air by eradicating virtually 100% of household VOCs like gases from cleaning solutions, carpets and furniture, plus viruses, mold spores, bacteria and common asthma and allergy triggers that traditional air filters can’t touch.  There are no filters to change or blades to wipe off and it produces no ozone.

Airocide CEO Michael Freedman says, “We are intrigued about bringing this remarkable technology into consumers bedrooms.  Over the years we have seen people using the commercial units in their homes with great success.”
