Rex Venture Group, which operates the online penny auction site Zeekler.com and affiliates program Zeek Rewards, has closed its headquarters for undisclosed reasons. Currently the websites are offline which is a nightmare for affiliates as for reporters.

A press release is not available.

In my opinion Zeek management has lost control of the situation, a press release could prevent a lot of on going speculation – 200,000+ affiliates are in shock.

The company, known to most as Zeek, posted three signs on the windows of its headquarters at 803 West Center St. in Lexington on Thursday that stated the office will be closed, telling visitors to check the website for more information.

There was no further information available on Zeekler.com or zeekrewards.com. The company also announced it is cancelling its upcoming Red Carpet event, scheduled for Wednesday.

The announcement, made on zeekrewardsnews.com, also advised readers to continue to monitor its websites for more information to be forthcoming.

Paul Burks, chief executive officer of Rex Venture Group, could not be reached for comment. Dr. Clifton Jolley, the company's media representative, also could not be reached. Details about the closing were conflicting on Thursday.

Dozens of people arrived at the company's headquarters throughout the afternoon on Thursday, only to find locked doors and confusion.

Unconfirmed sources said the building was being closed so Zeek could answer inquiries from the Attorney General, made in the form of a Civil Investigative Demand (CID).

According to N.C. General Statutes, a CID is an administrative subpoena that can be issued by the Attorney General whenever there is reason to believe a person, or entity, has information that is relevant to an ongoing investigation.

The Attorney General's office could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

Update – Rod Cook, MLM Watchdog comments as follows:

The North Carolina Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division has done something to cause the website to be shut down because of their investigation.  The AG had started a Civil Investigative Demand, that rarely doesn't shut a company down.   Normally the AG will get a Temporary Restraing Order (TRO) to to lock doors and shut down commerce. No court action on the AG's website so we don't know if the shut doors & missing URL was on part of the AG's office or voluntary on Zeek's part. Zeek has not sent out any email information.

I took the initiative to CALL Roy Cooper's office (the North Carolina AG, whoose office issued the CID),  I spoke with Gloria in Consumer Affairs, who said their switchboard has been lit up since opening their doors at 8:00 AM. She spoke on behalf of the AG and their office, and emphatically stated that in no way did they shut down Rex Venture Group, Zeekler, or ZeekRewards; that their office did NOT confiscate computers, nor did they issue a Cease and Desist Order. They have not scheduled the administrative hearing yet, and are at this stage simply awaiting a reply from Zeek and Rex Venture Group.

  3. What! I hope its back up by tomorrow. That is so crazy I can’t believe it they have been doing so well lately. I hope its just an upgrade or something minor that they are doing. I was just on the site and it was working perfectly and now this. I really love their sites and programs so I’m waiting to see the outcome of this issue! Its been down before and should be back up shortly! I don’t think Zeekler has anything to hide and is a solid company so it’ll be back.

  5. In my legal career, I have on occasion been able to gloat and with satisfaction say, “I told you so.” I take no such satisfaction tonight. Some very good friends took an unfortunate path from which i hope they can rebound. On July 14, I wrote an article on the Community Commerce and You page of Facebook evaluating from a legal standpoint whether Zeek is or is not a viable entity. Applying FTC and SEC rules and guidelines, as a lawyer practicing in this area of the law, my legal conclusion was that it was at best suspect and in fact likely a Ponzi sheme. Apparently the Attorney General’s office agrees. Today Zeek was shut down, its functions cancelled and its computers confiscated. Will it ultimately be allowed to reform and reopen? At this stage it is anybody’s guess. But even if it would, any company that operates that close to the edge of what is and is not legal is a company we should all steer away from. Should anyone need assistance navigating these troubled legal waters, I will try to help in any way I can.

      You should be banned for trying to troll here and get clients. If you had read Troy Dooley’s report on YouTube today, then you would have seen that its computers were not confiscated, but it was employees who changed the locks of the doors to keep other employees who had just been fired from entering. Troy said the employees were carrying out boxes of paperwork which shows this is not a criminal investigation but a civil investigation. If they were under a criminal investigation then the paperwork and computers would have been carried out by agents and not by employees. Ted Nuyten, please ban this lawyer before he disturbs the image of Zeek again and before he tries to troll for clients again.

As a lawyer, you would know how much trouble you can get yourself into from making a post such as this. Zeek is closed in response to a CID. We all know this. That means civil investigation, not criminal, so nothing was confiscated. Nobody was escorted off the premises for questioning, and the government hasn’t rushed in and changed the locks.       1. Unfortunately, Troy did not do a real due diligence investigation of this company. I cannot believe he didn’t see through this … it was pretty obvious that it was not a sustainable model. I am most concerned with how it will reflect on the entire industry … even though it was really NOT MLM. It was a different animal entirely. I am also concerned about some of the really top notch leaders from solid companies who left their businesses behind for this money game … at least I thought they were top notch leaders.

    I remember as if it were yesterday when the AG went after Amway,and nu-skin and many other companies.
    They sure like to control us and everything we do when are we going to start standing up for what is right.

If the authorities would think Zeek is operating illegally, they should also go after all those who organized BINGO games at community halls and centers, even some churches that organizes BINGO for Fund Raising.

    1. Rod, thanks for keeping them on the watch list … I was suspicious of the business model, and checked your site months ago. That was enough for me. And it’s not North Carolina AG … it’s the SEC. Looked like, smelled like, sounded like an illegal Ponzi scheme whether that was the intention or not. Since Madoff debacle, the SEC has to act much more quickly. Bottom line, it was not a traditional MLM … not a product or service. EZ money … it doesn’t exist. You have to work to make an opportunity successful … there is no EZ money in 5 minutes a day. Haven’t we learned that by now?

    Seasoned Networkers were asked time and again to join and they stayed on the side lines.
    The reason many seasoned networkers didn’t join can be found in
    best selling industry Books like “How to Choose a NM company” which you can read on my site.

    You should not have to, or be able to invest thousands with any company.

  19. Most of the people on this post is in Denial or something. The reason companies get in trouble is from the complainers that don’t make money and want to sue and report happens all the time. US is hard on these kinds of business but over the pond they are not that is how people earn a leaving you notice how all the foreigners jump on anything you put out there just the way it is. Zeek is closed the man said they locked the doors and packed up what planet are you on. Sure it might come back called another name with all the money the CEO has to start a new business. Unless you sue zeek for your money and that won’t happen you will never see it. Always have more than 1 thing in that portfolio and at least 1 MLM for that residual for life. Passive Income is great right now money nothing wrong with it but an MLM will be there.

OMG, a friend jus introduced this to me yesterday and it sounded like a great opportunity, and i was going to sign up today, n this happens, damn, i have always been skeptical about internet sites for making an income (i have invested huge amounts as well as been scammed numerous times) and after researching many sites regarding Zeek I was actually gonna sign up, as there is evidence that people are actually making money from this site. I hope al is restored soon, would love to become a member and wit the Country i Live in (South Africa) that little bit of extra income helps alot. N i have read that Zeek has helped thousands to financial freedom as well. To all the current subscribers i wil be prayin as hard as you to have all restored.

  24. To me, ever since the inception of Zeekrewards or Zeekler so to say as their clients usually ascribe it, I never for one time like that programme. The stylistic approach of its practices, the rewards systems and such other issues have actually made it a no look game of time to me.
    Even as at the time I saw Zeekler ranked second on the business for home website and subsequent news on its rapid growth, I was never invigorated by such mischief information. I thought it was never for me.
    Today, it is just like this as it has been announced! I am at the mercy of the victims. It is one of real mercy because many people across the globe are involved in this programme. Even as at yesterday, a friend of mine from Malaysia was advising me to join but I did not even respond to his invitation.
    But it is unfortunate that MLM Companies shot down like this without any pre-notice of reasons for immediate closure. It is a total frustration on the populace, a mental and psychological trauma.
    But they forgot to know that they are tainting their personality, breaching global trust. Can you tell me that if I am involved in Zeekler and it happened like this, and when other time the key holders who involved in this intentional crime invite me for their programme again that I will join? The answer is Capital NO! It is only a fool that will follow them again!
    But I seek the indulgence of concerned international law bodies into situations like this. If there has been no provision, it is now the time for MLM Lawyers to work at the mercy of the populace making provision for remedy on the victims of this like great scam. It need be so established that before any operation of an MLM Company, it must be subject to international law and the identities of the founders/shareholders must be secured so that in case of this type of act, they will be summoned!!!

  28. I am sad that things are where they are but it would great to know the real why’s and wherefore’s, speculation is not the same as fact. I thought everything was compliant. I cannot believe that 8 complaints would lead to this situation. I guess we will have to wait and see.

    On the surface of it the authorities in the US appear very heavy handed to me.

  29. I have been in Zeek for six months and my group and I depend on it to get through these hard economic times. My group includes a woman from Yugoslavia who has severe back pain, a retired tree faller from Oregon, a retired housewife, a laid off reebarb steel worker from Indiana, a Rumanian hospice worker, a grandmother who's son died and now she is raising his 4 pre teen kids, a veteran who served in two tours of duty in the Middle East, a policeman from an urban city in Indiana, and a writer who suffered head trauma in the Korean War. No one in my group is making a lot of money but we enjoy what we do and helping each other and the much need stream of income Zeek Rewards provides. I told all my friends who jumped in, put in only what you can afford to lose, and get back your investment as soon as you can. Then pretend you’re gambling in Vegas. If it were a criminal investigation, the doors would be yellow taped and things would not be allowed to be taken out. I’ve been in several MLM over the years and many had to go through this type of body cavity search! We will make it through the other side! Keep the Faith!!!

  34. I don’t know a lot about Zeek, but a friend just put me in the system. It is all so complicated to make sure everything is above board. I hope they survive this, but it will put a lot of people of investing money in this company. Time will tell. After the Shopping Genie debacle, our industry doesn’t need any more rockets that fail when the third booster is fired. Whatever happens, MLM is a wonderful way to make a living, providing you put in the effort in the early days and support your team. I do get sick of big business and government wanting to shut us down though.

    1. I agree John. With all the attention that zeek has gotten from its rapid growth. I know the lawyers worked hard to get the pay plan compliant to avoid something like this. Makes you wonder what they are trying to dig up. But in all fairness they were warned by Rod Cook to move their offices to Nevada. I really hope it works out and they leave NC…

  39. Similar thing happened to me in Skybiz, right at my peak of massive success. Much as I might have screamed and protested that it was a real business and by being shut many would be hurt, once the “Authorities” step in the writing is on the wall. Unfortunately Zeek was one of an increasing number of online viral programs that sound too good to be true,the writing was on the wall from the beginning, I just hope those in it made money whilst the sun was up? If you are in ANY program that promotes BIG Cash, doubling, tripling, no-recruiting, claiming to be “Different” from ordinary MLM, its right they are different, get your VIRTUAL Cash out of your account as soon as you can, you may not have what you think you have! Try real MLM, it may take longer to build however tends to last longer.

  44. Don’t panic stay calm this is nothing more than a routine attorney general ivestigation. It’s not the first time. It usually takes about 2 business days to complete. In North Carolina when you get 20 common complaints they have to investigate. So all you news bloggers giving false info to affiliates its your reputation on the line. I do promise you it’s on the line. “Mark my words!” zeek is well established has a few bugs just like all big global companies. Some people join at the lowest subscription level never tell anyone don’t put a dime in and expect to become millionaires. When they don’t, they look for ways to slow the business flow by complaining to the Attorney Generals Office. Now that news and facts. Please stay calm affiliates this will be resolved shortly. Once again this is routine.

I really am in awe, not for what it’s happening with Zeek, but for the so called leaders, making bad comments that only make them look bad and only prove they are not the leaders they say they are. When you post “We saw this one coming”, it’s in detriment of yourself, it speaks volumes of you as a person and it only denotes that you are only in this industry to make money at what ever cost and you don’t care about the people. This is what really hurts our profession. I think everyone should be as far away as they can be from this type of people cause they don’t represent this industry, they just represent their own interests.   46. While Zeek Rewards has closed their doors, this is hopefully temporary. This is the time where all the Zeek Affiliates need to COME TOGETHER AND STAND BEHIND THE COMPANY. We need to back the company and help them in their investigation and fight. They have already changed lives and we should hope they can continue to do so.   47. This is truly unfortunate to hear, however anything to good to be true usually isn’t. I couldn’t resist that.
    The direct selling industry is a wonderful industry when done with the right company. Dont let this put a sour taste in your mouth. When you go to vegas and gamble and lose its not the end of the world! Darrin Hardy posted this a few days ago on his blog:

Im talking 200,000 people pushing the “pay me button all at once” The math is ugly assuming everyone put in $10,000 That would be $20,000,000,000.00 I don’t think they have that kind of money laying around!!!! Even if there was 20,000 people $10,000 each =$200 million if my math is correct and even 2000 people $10,000 =$20million
