Glenda Farmer – Ambit Energy – Building Leaders

“The Life I Thought I’d Never Have”
Glenda Farmer, Ambit Energy Executive Consultant.
After working as a hairdresser for 25 years, I decided it was time to start my own business. So in 1993, I signed up to do network marketing for a major telecommunications provider. Things went well for about six years, and then I decided to try starting my own candle company.
But in 2004, all of my work dealings took a backseat to health concerns. I was diagnosed with colon cancer but I didn’t let it slow me down. I went through my treatments of non-traditional medicines, and during my recovery I got involved with a cosmetics company that also used network marketing.
In 2006, former colleague Steve Thompson put a new consultant in touch with my son, Corey about Ambit Energy. Corey told him to call his mom – “she’ll do anything!” Coincidentally, I had been investigating Stream Energy for a couple of years due to my interest in energy deregulation. This was the call I had been waiting for! I signed up with Ambit right away and two weeks later I sponsored Corey who is now an Executive Consultant and the rest is history.
After dealing with colon cancer, I realized I wanted to ensure a secure retirement. I wasn’t confident that Social Security would be able to provide a decent living. I knew that Ambit was something I could do, and that if I worked hard at it for a few years, I’d have my retirement.
Although Ambit is part time, I work it every day. I have set up an Ambit Training Center in Abilene and hold meetings throughout west Texas on various days of the week. I feel like I’m on track, but if I had listened to Steve Thompson, I would have done it faster.
I did learn early in my career with Ambit you have to build leaders. At any given time my leaders are willing to help others – because we care greatly about each other’s success. Without this team of leaders, I would not be in the position I am in today.
Because of Ambit, I have the freedom to spend quality time with my grandchildren. When they want something I can actually be there for them. I have been able to have new vehicles, a new house, retire my husband and at the drop of the hat go wherever I am needed.
As I continue to build my business I focus on teaching leadership and helping others achieve their promotions to Executive Consultant. It feels like west Texas is a state of our own, and I have a lot of work to do here. West Texas has not even been touched – and it’s wide open!
With my success in Ambit I look forward to many more fruitful years. I really am enjoying the life I thought I’d never have.
