What Beneve’s Creatine + HMB Pairing Says About Real Product Differentiation
According to a recent press release:
Everyone Is Launching Creatine. What Beneve’s HMB Pairing Says About Real Product Differentiation.
Creatine is having the biggest moment of its thirty-year existence, and every company can see it, according to Beneve. Launches are stacking up across the industry. Field leaders are being told, again, that this one is different.
Here is the uncomfortable part: creatine monohydrate is creatine monohydrate. It is one of the most studied and most standardized ingredients in the supplement world, which is exactly why it is one of the hardest to differentiate, Beneve contends. The molecule in a $19 tub and the molecule in a $79 tub are the same molecule*.
How the industry usually solves this
Beneve shared that the usual strategy is to differentiate the delivery: new salt forms, buffered versions, micronization, gummies, flavors, patented names attached to the same compound. Veteran distributors have watched this cycle enough times to know how it ends: the ingredient stays identical, the claims get louder, and eventually the price cannot hold because a customer with a phone can find the equivalent in ninety seconds, explains Beneve.
There is a second path, and it is less popular because it is harder and more expensive. Instead of dressing up the ingredient, change what sits next to it, and then go find evidence that the combination does something the ingredient alone does not.
That is a materially different claim, Beneve shared. It is also a testable one.
Why HMB is the variable
HMB is a metabolite of leucine. It is not new, it is not trendy, and it is not cheap, which is why it does not show up next to creatine more often.
The published work on the pairing is the reason it should, Beneve explains:
In a 40-participant, three-week trial published in Nutrition, participants taking creatine with HMB gained 67 percent more lean body mass and recorded 32.7 percent greater cumulative strength gains than participants taking creatine alone*. Not more than placebo. More than creatine.
A ten-week study of 28 elite endurance athletes in Nutrients found the combination outperformed either ingredient on its own in performance testing*. And a six-week randomized crossover trial in GeroScience found improvements across functional measures including grip strength, leg and back strength and timed push-ups, with gains largely independent of changes in muscle mass*.
NOTE: This is research on the ingredient combination, rather than on any finished product, a distinction field language should keep.

What Beneve did with it
Beneve’s Creatine + HMB is the version of this decision most companies do not make.
A company sourcing a stock formula takes what the catalog offers, and the catalog offers creatine, Beneve states.
Beneve develops its formulas in-house, which means the pairing was a choice someone had to argue for, defend on cost, and then justify to a field that would have sold plain creatine without complaint, the company noted.
Beneve also made a deliberate choice in the ingredients themselves, using trademarked OptiCreatine® and myHMB® rather than unspecified commodity sources. That matters because branded ingredients come with defined sourcing and quality specifications, adding another layer of consistency to a formula already differentiated by the pairing itself.
The product is positioned as muscle and recovery support rather than as a performance play, which tracks with a formula built around what the combination was actually measured doing, shares Beneve.

Why this matters to the field
This is where the Beneve opportunity reads differently from most of what is available in the channel right now, according to the company.
An influencer holding an in-house formula is not competing on enthusiasm. They are holding something that is not sitting on a shelf anywhere else, and the sentence they get to say is a comparison rather than a conviction: this was measured against creatine on its own. Comparisons travel. They do not require charisma, they do not expire when the launch window closes, and they survive the moment a customer goes looking for a cheaper version, because the cheaper version is not the same formula.
It is also not a one-product story. The same development standard runs through the line, from Glutathione+ to Luxe Liquid Collagen Peptides, so a builder is not tethered to a single hero SKU and whatever eventually happens to it, the company explains. Everything is third-party tested*, which means an influencer can hand a skeptic a protocol instead of an adjective.
Most opportunities ask the field to believe harder, Beneve points out. This one asks them to learn something and teach it, which is a far more repeatable thing to ask of a team, and a far more durable thing to build on.
The question in this category is no longer whether your customer is taking creatine; most of them soon will be, maintains Beneve. It is what else is in the scoop, who decided to put it there, and whether the person selling it can tell you why.
